Hughes Opens Some Eyes After BP Session

Yankees young gun Phil Hughes had a very impressive live batting practice session. Hughes threw a total of 40 pitches, 10 each, to Jeter, Damon, Abreu, and Cervelli. Of those 40 pitches, only two made it out of the infield with only one being hit hard. "You had hitters telling the next hitter, 'Be ready,' " manager Joe Girardi said. "The ball was getting on you quickly. He was locked in."

Last year, Hughes' first season in the bigs, was injury filled. When he did pitch, he would hit 91-92 on the gun and was inconsistent. Yankee catchers Posada and Molina have noticed alot more pop when he pitches. Scouts say that so far Hughes has been hitting 94-95 on thegh gun.
